How About That Ice!
Here is a list of dates when the ice has gone out from Worthley Pond. This record was started and maintained by Jack Zollo. Reggie Wing obtained records from the store in 1995 when he bought his place and since then has updated from his own observations each year.
Ice out is defined by the State of Maine as “when you can navigate unimpeded from one end of the water body to the other.” According to the Lakes Environmental Association, these statistics provide the state with ice cover duration data, which impacts things like water levels, anoxia, and recreational use.
