This question was posed in the June 2024 News and here’s what our Friends of Worthley Pond said:
The Burns Family Camp, 83 East Shore Road: 97 years!!
The Cameron/Burns/Maddox property was purchased by John A. Cameron in 1927 and the camp was built by John and his son, Marshal A. Cameron. When John died in 1960, the land was transferred to Marshall A. Cameron and his wife, Mabel Cameron. In 1972, Marshall and Mabel deeded the property to their daughter, Barbara C. Burns and her husband, Elliot E. (Bud) Burns. In 2008, they deeded it to their children, Arthur E. Burns and Gayle S. B. Maddox. Therefore, with Arthur’s children (Collin & Abby Burns) and Gayle’s daughter (Sarah Maddox), the camp is now on its 5th generation in the same family….97 years and counting!
