Important Notice: In 2017, there will be no WPA Scholarship because membership dollars will be used to support the programs that help to preserve and protect Worthley Pond, such as LakeSmart and Courtesy Boat Inspections.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Submission Deadline: TBD
Scholarship Coordinator: Sherry Barstow
Who’s Eligible: Graduating seniors and college students who are members of the Worthley Pond Association, or the child or a grandchild of a Worthley Pond Association member for the current year.
Applicants who have applied in previous years and received the Award may apply again. Applicants who applied before and did NOT receive the Award are encouraged to apply again as your previous entries were very good. NEW applicants are encouraged to apply too!
Award Details: The scholarship is awarded to a student who has been accepted as a full time student or to one who is already a full time student at a two or four year college or university of higher education. The Award is distributed after the student has completed his/her first semester and after the Worthley Pond Association has received proof from the institution that the student is in good standing and will be returning for the second semester. If the recipient has already matriculated and is returning for the fall semester, the Award may be given for that semester. In all cases, the student, his/her parents, or his/her grandparents must renew their WPA membership for the upcoming school year.
The Essays are evaluated by a panel of three judges who do not know who the applicants are or who the other judges are. The only person who knows the names of the judges or the applicants is the Scholarship Coordinator.
This essay should be 300 words or less. It will be judged on the following criteria:
- Theme: How well does the writer stick to the theme?
- Appeal: How well does the essay appeal to the reader?
- Spelling: Compared to the other entries, how correct is the spelling in the essay?
- Grammar/punctuation: Compared to the other entries, how correct is the grammar and punctuation?
